Preventative Health Care for Your Cat or Dog

To ensure that your pet receives complete preventative care to protect against disease, we recommend a series of two visits. During these visits, your pet will receive all vaccinations needed to maintain good health. In addition, a veterinarian will thoroughly examine your pet to identify any potential problems.

Because your pet's health and well being will depend on more than just vaccinations, we will sit down and talk with you about caring for your cat or dog, behavior issues, and answer any questions you might have.

Kitten Series Visits Consist of:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam

    • Feline Calicivirus
    • Rabies
    • Panleukopenia
    • Feline Rhinotracheitis
    • Feline Leukemia
    • Feline Herpevirus
  • Pet owner counseling regarding pet care, housebreaking, behavior problems and socialization

Maintaining the Health of Your Adult Cat:

In order to maintain your cat's health, we recommend the following annual preventative healthcare:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam to detect signs of disease, illness, or aging concerns
  • Intestinal parasite (worm) testing
  • Vaccinations:
    • Feline Distemper to protect against feline respiratory diseases (Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus) and Panleukopenia (Distemper)
    • Feline Leukemia
    • Rabies vaccine

Puppy Series Visits Consist of:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam
  • Intestinal parasite (worm) testing and treatment
  • Vaccinations:
    • Distemper
    • Leptospirosis
    • Canine Parvovirus
    • Bordetella
  • Pet owner counseling regarding pet care, housebreaking, behavior problems and socialization

In order to maintain your dog's health, we recommend the following annual preventative healthcare:

  • Comprehensive Physical Exam to detect signs of disease, illness, or aging concerns
  • Intestinal parasite (worm) testing
  • Heartworm testing and preventative
  • Vaccinations:
    • DHLPP to protect against Distemper, Canine Hepatitis/Adenovirus Type 1 & 2, Canine Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis, Canine Parvovirus
    • Lymes vaccine to protect against Lymes Disease
    • Rabies vaccine
    • Bordetella vaccine for kennel cough

Vaccinations

Vaccinations can protect your pet against several serious and some potentially fatal diseases. It is much easier to prevent these diseases than it is to treat them when they occur.

There are several types of intestinal parasites that are common in this area. We recommend microscopic fecal exams be performed annually on all dogs and cats.

Heartworm

Heartworm testing and a year-round prevention program is highly recommended for every dog in our practice. We are also seeing some heartworm disease in cats. Preventive medicine is now available for this problem.

Our Flea and Tick Prevention Programs are continually being improved. We have several very effective programs. Ask us which one will be the best for you and your pet.

Neutering

Neutering of pets not intended for breeding not only prevents unwanted puppies and kittens, but also prevents serious disease such as breast cancer, uterine infection, prostate disease, perianal hernias, and several other reproductive tract disorders and related diseases. The average life expectancy is higher in those pets neutered at a young age.

Home Prevention

The best disease or injury prevention you can give your pet when he or she is outside the house is control. This can be a fence, a leash, a pen, or a voice if trained well enough, and the pet is never out of sight. We see many injured animals every year who were out of human control once. Be sensitive to extremes in the weather when it is too hot or too cold.

There is no substitution for good nutrition. Pets should be fed a well balanced died made for their condition (age, breed, health, etc.) and activity level. Ask us.
